Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will fight this Sunday in Saudi Arabia (Saturday night in America) against Cuban William ‘The Indomitable’ Scull to regain his only remaining super middleweight title, the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
The fight, to be held at the WBA Arena in Riyadh, will feature all the super middleweight belts at stake: Scull’s own, and Alvarez’s three titles: the World Boxing Council (WBC), the Association (WBA), and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
Alvarez was the undisputed champion in the division until last year he refused to face Scull, the mandatory challenger, who won the title in October by defeating Russian Vladimir Shishkin by unanimous decision.

Instead, Canelo retained all three of his belts in September against Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga.
The challenge won’t be easy for the Mexican, the former pound-for-pound best in the world, who faces the challenge of breaking Scull’s unbeaten record, with a 23-win record, the other of which came by knockout.
‘El Indomable’ is a fighter with an aggressive and direct style, with a tendency to use his left hand to hit his opponents’ bodies, in addition to possessing a dangerous right uppercut.
The Cuban’s advantage is his height, at 1.80 meters, with a reach of 1.90 meters. “Canelo” is 1.70 meters tall and has a reach that is 15 centimeters shorter than his opponent’s.
In general, at middleweight, Alvarez tends to challenge taller opponents who are dangerous at close and long range, but that hasn’t been a factor in his loss of his titles.
Furthermore, the 34-year-old Guadalajara native hasn’t looked as dominant in his recent fights, having not scored a knockout in six fights. Álvarez’s record is 62 wins, 39 wins before the limit, two draws and two losses.
